Following an approach by the Hunter 707 class association, Hyde Sails are now one of just two class legal manufacturers for these popular sports-boats.  Having, amongst other attributes, a reputation for building one design sail, the sails produced for one customer/boat will be identical to those for the previous and next, which adds to the ethos and fun of one-design sailing where the crews sailing skills should reign over their bank accounts.  With a significant fleet of 707’s in Port Edgar in Scotland, Hydes were able to call upon the local Hyde Sails distributors there, Chic and Nicky Medley at ‘Sail Doctor’ ,to assist with the specification, especially to eradicate possible weak spots they had noted when carrying out repair/service work to the previous class sails.

The cloth chosen for the main and headsail was a polyester laminate with a single ‘LiteSkin’ taffeta to offer performance potential and aid longevity.  With the popularity of ‘black’ sails ever on the rise, this box was ticked to add a ‘modern’ look to the venerable class. The cloth for the spinnaker was again chosen to offer performance potential and longevity, with the sail gaining the nickname ‘Thunder kite’ by some due to the speed it offers.
