Hyde Sails has always had a presence in Australia, but this has recently been bolstered by forming partnerships with three more Australian Sailmakers, this now means Hyde Sails become an even more significant attendance in Australian Waters with Bull Sails, Smith Sails and Peter McNeil Sails all recently joining the group. All three are career sailmakers with full repair and service facilities in Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales respectively.
Victoria is now covered by Tony Bull at Bull Sails, a dual world champion coach and sailing author, He is in Geelong and has an extensive yachting career beginning with growing up in the family boat building business on the Gippsland Lakes. In sailing he has tasted success at International, National and State level.
In Queensland Smith Sails is owned and operated by Yancy Smith. Growing up in a sailing family of 4 boys (plus Mum and Dad) Yancy was always going to be involved in the industry – He didn’t really have a choice! Coming from a family of champion sailors – including world national and state titles in various classes, Yancy draws on this experience along with his practical skills, tradesmanship and embraces the latest technology. The first Smith Sails loft was established by his parents in Mooloolaba in the late 70’s and from there it’s been an evolution of sorts cumulating in his involvement with Hyde Sails.
Peter (Polly) McNeil located in Lake McQuarrie, New South Wales and is a former Etchells World Champion, he is a highly respected sailor with a passion for all aspects of sailing and sail-making. Polly has been a member of RPAYC at Pittwater since joining as a junior in the seventies and is regularly spotted sailing on the waterways of Sydney as well as Lake Macquarie, Gosford, Newcastle and Port Stephens.
These new acquisitions along with established agents with Steve Emery in South Australia and Nigel Simpson in Western Australia give Hyde sails a sail-making presence second to none in Australia.
